Calm Amidst the Chaos

An MSD grad and past facilitator of the program has written a poem adapted from Psalm 46 and written with our current experiences in mind. Thank you to Jenny Strange for these insightful and inspiring words!

God, You are our everlasting place of sustainment,

You stay with us in the midst of chaos.

For this reason, we can trust, even when facing an unseen enemy,

When all our usual confidences feel shaky,

When our systems are taxed and at times in danger of failing,

And our very connections as humans must change.

You bring living water flowing to humanity,

The innermost sacred spaces within us, created for You to dwell.

Emmanuel-God  with us in the midst-Your kingdom will not fail.

You will bring healing with the rise of dawn.

All corners of earth are groaning, sadness comes,

Yet You speak-this world is still Yours, loved by Your fiery love.

The Unsearchable Mystery is the One who is among us,

Revealer of grace and love is the One who calls.

Come, and gaze at God-become aware of His movements,

His light shining on our need for Him above all else.

His rule brings peace,

He asks us to lay down our varied arms towards one another,

He alone is our true shield.

Be. Simply Be. All of us, Pause.  A deep knowing, that I Am God.

I will be exalted among all peoples,

I will be praised from heavens to seas to earth and all that live

within them.

The Unsearchable Mystery is the One who is among us,

Revealer of grace and love is the One who calls.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,

though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam,

though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy habitation of the Most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;

God will help her when morning dawns.

The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,

how he has brought desolations on the earth.

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;

he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

he burns the chariots with fire.

“Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

The Lord of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
