Calm Amidst the Chaos

GOOD ENOUGH IS GOOD ENOUGH (submitted by Debbie Heisley-Cato)

For some, this time of “sheltering in place” and of limited social interaction has been a welcome relief and a time to reflect on what is really important about the life we live.  It has also been a time to reflect on what we can let go of in order to have a richer, more centered life.

But for others who have needed to work at home, share the space with a spouse who is also working at home, and maybe also supervise children who can no longer go to daycare or older ones who need to attend school on line, it has been a time for all of us to learn new things and add words like Zoom to our vocabulary.  And this has created additional stress in our daily lives.

In times like this I can become almost paralyzed because I want to master all the new skills.  I want to do the work that needs to be done, and I want to do it perfectly.  The pressure I place on myself can be overwhelming.

In this unprecedented time, God graced me with this scripture.  “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  (II Corinthians 12:9)  I am reminded that when God calls, God provides what is needed to answer the call.  God doesn’t call you or me to perfection, but rather to faithfully do our best with the time and talent we have.  And if we feel inadequate and God brings fruit from our efforts, then the glory goes to God.

In short, in God’s hands good enough is good enough!
