Insights on Prayer by Paula K. Smith

Praise – To commend, honor or declare the worth of. Psalm 150, praise used 13 time in 6 verses – Tells where to praise, why to praise and how to praise. “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”

Repent – To feel such sorrow for sin or fault that you change your behavior/life for the better . True repentance results in behavior change. Acts focuses on repentance in regard to salvation—from rejection of Christ to belief in and acceptance of Christ.

Ask  — Using words to seek an answer, to question, make a request. Matthew 7:7 “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” James 4:2 – Motives. Philippians 4:6 – Do not be anxious…present your requests to God.

Yield – Submit, surrender. Present self to God as His servant, His property, wholly consecrated to Him  Luke 2:22, Jesus presented to the Lord by parents; Ephesians 5:25-27, Christ and the church. Romans 12:1-12.

Evangelize(Greek) – To announce good news, bring up to date, make ware. Share what Jesus did for you. Isaiah 43:4, Precious and loved; I Peter 3:16, Always be ready to reply to whoever asks you the reason for the hope which is in you. We should never be afraid to speak. Luke 12:11-12

Reap – To gather or harvest. When God says we reap what we so, He means we live with the results of our actions. 2 Corinthians 9:6, Sow sparingly/bountifully; reap the same. Luke 6:38, Give, good measure; Proverbs 11:25, A generous person will prosper, whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

Prayer is a relationship we humbly communicate, worship and seek God’s face, knowing He hears us, love us and will respond.

Prayer is a solemn request for help or an expression of thanks to God. It is not magic, not demanding, no guarantee against pain and suffering, not an opportunity to show off. It is for our benefit.

Prayer encompasses confession, praise, adoration, intercession and more.

Luke 11:1: Lord, teach us to pray (Lord’s Prayer model)

Ephesians 6:18: Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kind of prayers and requests.

I Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing.

God is personal, loving, all powerful (Luke 1:37), all knowing (Matthew 6:8), wise, holy, active in all of creation.

No prayer is too small, not prayer is too big.

Because Christ clothed Himself in humanity, we are now clothed in Christ and we should never be afraid to speak, pray, testify.

God gave everything so we don’t forget our worth.

Galatians 6:7: Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The man who sows to please his sinful nature, from the nature will reap destruction; the one who saws to please the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
